The Morpho Block is Metric’s unlevel edge portable hangboard tailor fit for YOU.

The primary benefit of an unlevel edge is ergonomics. Everyone’s finger morphology is unique and therefore their ergonomic requirements are also unique. Most unlevel edge products on the market are designed to be one size fits all - so they may get close to your morphology but will rarely be perfect. A tailored shirt will always fit better than the usual S, M, L, XL sizes.

The Morpho Block takes 15 different measurements from your fingers and is custom made for YOU. The result will be an exceptionally comfortable and safe portable hangboard device for your finger training needs.

The edges are designed to promote a more anatomically neutral hand position to strongly reduce the risk of injury when training. This is achieved by gradually curving away from the main fingertip contact surface in a manner that offers PIP joint support.

*Note that the pinky has a minimal ramp supporting the PIP joint. This is intentional to help minimize the size of the block while prioritizing PIP support on the middle three fingers.

The cord angle is intended to be used doubled up for an ergonomically neutral pull vector. However, the cord can be pulled out the front only, giving a more incut angle. The longer cord may be useful for wrapping around your foot if warming up outdoors.

Metric has the best digitally sculpted texture on the market. It allows you to grip holds without fear of dryfiring and is tuned to be skin friendly. The texture location is precisely located to reduce unnecessary skin wear and promote ergonomics. It feels even better with chalk.

Shipping Note:

Due to the custom nature of this product, please allow 1-2 weeks for the production of your Morpho Block.

Measurement Note:

We cannot guarantee a perfect fit however the modelling code has been optimized to allow for some small variances in your measurements that  should help provide a comfortable fit.

If you have a large discrepancy in finger length between your hands (4+ mm), this block may not be able to accommodate such a large differece.

Over 40 unique hands have been measured and prototypes made prior to the official launch. As long as your measurements are accurate, your block should fit you just right.

FAQ

What makes the Morpho Block special?

This isn't a random design that was modelled in a weekend. Since the initial functional prototype, the design has gone through dozens of iterations with over 40 unique prototypes sent to users around the world. Regular users have reported that instead of their fingers feeling tweaky after a training session, their fingers actually feel healthier.

Why do I need to take my own measurements?

This reduces the chance of our team misinterpreting the photo and thus reduces the likelihood of error. By uploading your own measurements, this means that you’re confident with your numbers so we can be confident with your model. Our model has been optimized to accommodate minor variances that may occur from measuring.

Is this better than a flat edge on a normal hangboard?

A regular flat edge is far superior for hold specific training. For general finger strength, an unlevel edge will be superior due to more evenly distributed loads across the fingers, and improved ergonomics. The Morpho Block takes this one step further by implementing a gradual ramp that supports PIP joint, to promote a more anatomically neutral lifting position. This PIP support strongly reduces the risk of injury incurred through no-hang training.

Why isn’t the edge a consistent depth?

A full pad crimp is relative to a person’s DIP joint length. On one person’s hand, that full pad length can vary by over 5mm between their 4 fingers. The Morpho Block is designed to create a uniform loading experience across all 4 fingers. Unlevel edge products exist for specific edge depths, The Morpho Block isn’t one of them.

Why is my block so wide?

The dimensions of the block are entirely dictated by your finger measurements. If you have short pinkies, the block will be wider than a block made for longer pinkies. Similarly, if your fingertips are wide, the length of your block will change accordingly.

Why are ergonomics important?

Repetitive stress injuries can affect anybody. Typically, these injuries are caused by long term exposure to repetitive physical exertion and are exacerbated with high intensity versions of that exertion. While it is very helpful to stretch, and perform the appropriate exercises to reduce the risk of a repetitive stress injury, improvement in ergonomics will benefit user health without changing any other habits.

An example is an office worker experiencing carpal tunnel. Switching to an ergonomic keyboard and mouse will help reduce the risk of further injury by placing their hands in a more anatomically neutral position.

Another example is a routesetter experiencing a wrist injury from overuse with a drill. Switching to an impact driver with a lighter battery will help reduce the risk of further injury by reducing the impact on the wrist.

Why an unlevel edge?

Flat edges will always have their place but they create uneven loads between your fingers. Long term training, especially with heavy loads will likely lead to excessive strain on the middle finger, less strain on the index and ring fingers, and the pinky may get very little strain. An unlevel edge will strongly help distribute the training loads more evenly between each finger. The Morpho Block takes this to the next level with a tailor fit solution for your specific fingers.

Why are the PIP joint support ramps different lengths?

In the interest of keeping the block in a smaller form factor, the amount of PIP joint support varies based on finger length differences. This means the middle finger will generally get the most support, and the pinky gets the least amount of support. While this is a compromise from the most ergonomically possible block, this reduces the width of the block considerably. Furthermore, the pinky is generally less worked compared to other fingers. Therefore the amount of PIP joint support scales accordingly.

Why is the block a 4 finger design rather than a 5 finger?

The Morpho Edge utilizes a 5 finger design for a more compact form factor. The main downside of a 5 finger design is the variance in index and ring finger lengths. Furthermore, weight balancing on a 5 finger design is an issue. When 4 fingers are pulling on a 5 finger design, the center of balance sits between the middle and ring finger. The geometric center of balance on a 5 finger design is in the middle above the middle finger edge. This discrepancy encourages the block to pivot, negatively affecting consistency when training. This is generally not an issue with lighter loads but when lifting heavier like the Morpho Block is designed for, the superior balance point of a 4 finger design is critical.
