Hello!! My name is Jenice Ma, and I am so psyched to be a Metric Climbing athlete. I am currently in medical school at the University of Alberta (MD) looking to specialize in anesthesiology. I am also a
Flashed and Calgary Climbing Center (CCC) sponsored athlete, and an active member of the climbing community, particularly in regard to advocating for gender equality and accessibility in the sport.
I have been climbing for 4 years (nationally competitively for 2, internationally for 1) and my climbing
accomplishments include:
1. Top 15 at the Canadian High Performance Competitions
2. Top 25 at Bouldering and Lead Nationals
3. Finals in AB provincials
4. Outdoor highest grades of V11 and 5.13
I just finished up my second year of medical school and have decided to take a year off before clerkship (year 3 of medical school) to pursue climbing at an elite level, with big goals at the international World Cup level, as well as outdoors. As a full-time athlete, it’s always nice to be able to do some parts of my training outside of the climbing gym, and Metric’s edges gives me the flexibility to do almost all of my finger training from home. Metric’s edges are also far more accurate than any commercial hangboard, which allows me to precisely track my training and progress. I am looking forward to pushing my training and climbing this coming year, particularly with the support from Metric!
